The 2009 Department of Peace National Conference was a huge success! With over 500 attendees, several guest speakers, and visits to Representatives and Senators on Capitol Hill Monday, March 23, this event sparked hope for the future and a passion for peace for all involved.

Thoughts from Monday
Waking up this morning, I found myself to be in a state of pure amazement that in a few hours I was going to be on the Hill meeting with the staff of Colorado Representatives, lobbying for a Department of Peace. I have lobbied before in Fort Collins, Colorado but lobbying on the Hill in Washington D.C. was a much different experience. This morning over ten Colorado constitutes set to the street. Read more...

Coming of Age
The Peace Alliance has matured as an organization. In D.C., today, I'm seeing professional conference planning and execution, refined messaging, and really sophisticated support materials. I'm preparing for another dose, over the next few days, of high-octane advocacy training. This conference is inspirational for me. That's partly because of the stories and promise of bringing a culture of peace to the mainstream, but also because it shows a very mature side of the peace movement.  Read more...
